I just got a new kitten, two months old and is a purebred himalayan. He is suppossed to be cat boxed trained, but when I brought him to my house, he has proceeded to poop in every corner of the room I have set him in. I keep him in a small room at night with his cat sand, and I continuously all day put him in the box. When he wakes up, after he eats, etc. I even put the poops he does make in the box so he would learn, but nothijng seems to work! Should I give it a few weeks? As we’ve only had him for about 4 days.
Any suggestions, or help with be great, b/c his poops stink!!!

give it sometime, it’s probably pretty scary. he was just taken from his mother and siblings and brought to this new place where is mother and siblings aren’t there. leave him in just one room with his litterbox, food water, toys and scratch post etc. keep him confined to that room for a while till he learns to use the box. make sure you go in there often and play with him etc. don’t make it like a jail in there this is his safe place to be.
When we brought our new kitten home he would not go in his new litter box either. He is used to going in the litter from the original box. You should call and find out what type of litter they used, then use that type. If you want to change litter types. Gradulally add the new litter to the old untill you only have the new type. We got our kitten from my sister, I went to her and got a ziploc full of the other litter and put it on top of the new litter and he went right away. We have never had any other trouble.
Cat’s usually have an instinct to use the litter box. Did you put him IN the litter box when you first brought him in? Also, have you tried putting a little catnip in his litter? It might entice him to go in the litterbox.
let him keep doing it until he stops. i have had like 20,000000 cats.
the kitten is probably very stressed out right now. it is in a new home with a new person and away from his mom and siblings.
another reason could be, that the sand you are using is not the same one he is used from back home. there are cats who are VERY picky with their litter box. also a covered box can freak him out if hes not used to that, just leave the top off until it learns to go in his box and is adjusted to the new environment.
after having lots of cats in my life, i have learned that the best medicine for any anxiety in a kitten is lots of love and playing. but please do not pressure him, if he just does not want to play leave him alone but stay in the room, maybe read a magazine or something. that wil teach him that you are there if he needs company.
make sure there are no loud noises and no fast movements, (no small children) because a sensitive cat will get freaked out about everything and anything. specially at first. make sure that he has a safe place he can hide in his room when he wants to be left alone. like a big box with fluffy interior.
as soon as he is feeling better about the new place he will go into his litter box. cats are not stupid, he knows exactly where it is.
It is important to always leave the litter box in the same spot. otherwise they can get confused.
I think you should give him time since he is still a baby..he may be still trying to adopt himself to his new place.I’m sure he will do it.They all do. It just takes a little patience with the kittens.
hes so new
He’ s probably scared. His food is no wheres near his box right? Cats don’t like to poop where they eat lol
You can try adding a shallow box in another area of the room. Give him a choice. The box is brand new I assume? No cat scents on it.
He is probably just scared and needs to get used to his new surroundings. Don’t give up. Give him lots of gentle love, a good diet, toys, attention and have patience. Hes a baby. Also have your vet check him out for worms etc. asap. That can cause havoc.
He was probably in a cage since birth so you can put down his travel box leaving it open with a blanket/towel in it so a safe place.
HIMALAYAN CATS ARE HIGH STRUNG AND FINICKY TO BEGIN WITH. THE CHANGE IN SURROUNDINGS COULD BE THE REASON FOR THIS OR THE CAT LITTER ITSELF. I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL 1 YEAR OLD CAT, WHO IS SPOILED ROTTEN. THE ONLY CAT LITTER HE WILL USE IS THE ” SCOOP AWAY CLUMP TIGHT” BRAND CAT LITTER. IT WILL TAKE THE STINK OUT OF HIS POOP LOL!! I FOUND OUT THAT I’M WASTING MY MONEY WITH ANYTHING ELSE.
